The Luminous Mysteries
(Thursdays)
The Coming of the Kingdom of God and the ongoing Redemption work in Aotearoa.

1. The Baptism In The Jordan
After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water...And a voice came from
Heaven saying, “This is my beloved Son,...”(Mt.3:16..17)

Reflection: Jesus takes the Challenge of the Father in heaven and starts His
mission on earth. Jesus identifies Himself with those who search for God. We pray for
all Christians in Aotearoa may they be faithful to the mission that Baptism entrusted to
them.

2. Jesus Self-Manifestation at Cana
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee...and the mother of Jesus
was there...When they ran out of wine...Mary said to Him, “They have no wine.” Jesus
said, “Woman, why turn to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother told the
servers, “Do whatever He tells you.” (John 2:1..11)

Reflection: The miracle of the new wine prefigures the Eucharist, the
supreme sign of the Presence of the Risen Lord among His disciples, and the firm
faith of Mary the Mother of God invites everyone to “Do whatever He tells you.”We
pray for a greater awareness of the Presence of the Lord in our lives and especially in
our Christian couples and families, which are the first cells of the Church.

3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom and the Call to Conversion
After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee proclaiming the Good News
from God. “The time has come...The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe
in the Good News.” (Mark 1:14..15)

Reflection: Jesus began His Mission and the light of His love shone on
everyone he met. The encounter with the Risen Lord must lead to a profound change
of heart. We pray for all those who struggle and doubt, we pray for the grace of
conversion and reconciliation in ourselves, in our families, in our communities and in
Aotearoa.

4. The Transfiguration
While Jesus was praying His face changed in appearance and His clothing became
dazzling white...Moses and Elijah were conversing with Him, and spoke of His
passing that He was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. (Luke 9:28..36).

Reflection: The disciples see Jesus in His humanity and at the same time
glimpses of His divinity in insights of faith. Our belief goes through similar tension of
agony and ecstasy of faith, but we know that all will be transformed and we will share
His glory when we will be going through death as Christ did. We pray for perseverance
and courage to last in faithfulness and to surrender ourselves totally to Christ even in
our own passing away.

5. The Institution of the Eucharist
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live
forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” (John 6:51)

Reflection: Jesus becomes actual food to enter into us to provide
nourishment and refreshment to our soul in what we call Holy Communion. The Real
Presence of Christ in the Eucharist continues His work of redemption by giving us the
light and the strength we need to serve Him with all our heart. We pray that the
Eucharistic graces never dry up in our parish, dioceses throughout Aotearoa.
